What a cold, callous person this question makes you sound. I have a disability (spinal) which means I need to use a walking stick on a 'bad' day, but on the days when the pain is not quite so unbearable, I walk unaided wherever possible.

One of the reasons I probably don't use my walking sticks as much as I should is because I hate the looks I get from people like you who are clearly thinking "what's wrong with her".

Please don't judge people's circumstances by what you can't possibly even know about them. It's hurtful.

For the record, I don't sit on my 'fat ***' and smoke and drink all day either.

Yes, I can read - the problem is with my back, not my eyes. I am asking you how can YOU tell whether a person's problem is genuine or not? Because my disability is in my spine, it affects both legs, sometimes one worse than the other. Therefore, it might look to you that one I am limping on my left leg one day, but worse on my right leg the next.

One of these days I'll learn to just ignore these ignorant questions that get me mad.....

Who the HELL are you to judge who needs a cane and who doesn't? I'm 25 years old, and I look perfectly healthy, but I have absolutely debilitating pelvic pain. The only reason I look well is because of my meds, otherwise I wouldn't be able to get out of bed. If you saw me, I'm sure you'd think I was perfectly fine, but I'm not. The point is, you don't know the whole story about ANY of those people, and it's none of your business either way. If you see him walking up and down the street, he's obviously not just sitting on his fat *** and drinking beer and smoking. Get a life and mind your own damn business. Karma is going to bite you in the *** for judging people.

I can understand your anger, it annoys me too (and just for the record I have a health problem that means I sometimes have to use a stick, other times it seems to onlookers that I walk quite normally without it).
If you are sure these people are claiming benefits which they are not entitled to then report them, its easy and anonomous at the site below (assuming you are in the UK).

Remember that some conditions can cause variable symptoms and the young man with the limp may be totally genuine!!!

how do you know they don't need their stick. my gran is 86 and very vain. she fell 3 years ago and broke her hip. since then her confindence has deteriorated. she will use her stick at home cos her balance is all over the shop but outside she tries to make do cos people like you look at her (or so she thinks). we are all terrified she falls again, but she thinks going stickless is worth the risk of people not looking at her.!!!!!!!

I just wish my life was as trouble free as yours so I had the time to worry about such trivial crap.

what a strangely bizarre question, how do you know they don't need their sticks? i don't think i've seen drunken people brandishing walking sticks whilst smoking, i wish i had as it sounds quite amusing!!
