N T, get a life!!!

You should know that there is a 40-60% margin of error where the elliptical trainers calorie counters are concerned. I've done a lot of research on this and there is a website that list the 'true' amount of calories that you are burning. But as a rough estimate I would say what ever calories it, 'says' you are burning automatically cut that in half to be on the safe side.

As for how much 'should' you burn...that really is up to you and how much you've eaten through the day. You should know how many calories you should be consuming (to lose, to stay the same, or to gain) and subtract the amount of the exercise from the total of calories you eat during the day...tedious I know.

3500 calories = 1 lb so if you're trying to lose weight, I'd try to burn 500 calories per day each week which would add up to 1 lb a week ... this along with a sensible diet is a great start :) you could burn 500 calories every day for 7 days or do more or less depending on how fast u want to lose weight. otherwise if u are just trying to maintain ur weight, 30 minutes every day or every other day is great for ur heart :) hope this helps!
