I just got a 4 month old kitten from my sister-in-law. The kitten was a stray kitten, but has been indoors for two months. It has been dewormed and vaccinated. I was just wondering if anyone knew what I can do to teach him not to run out the door when it is open. Anyone have any ideas?

get a water bottle that sprays and keep it close to the door(s). Every time someone goes towards/to the door, grab the spray bottle and spray the kitten every time it acts like it's " going to escape" be sure to put the nozzle on STREAM...aim for the face....at a distance this will not hurt the eye's...as soon as the kitten turns away from you STOP spraying and the kitten will learn not to approach the door(s).

I trained mine by using a spray bottle filled with water,(with a strong stream. A water pistol would work too). When I went to the door and pretended to open it, and the cat ran over and showed interest, I'd spray the cat and tell it "no! no!" Two years later and it's still working great. I had to do it for about a week. Good luck

Try filling a squirt bottle with water and spraying the cat whenever it gets near the door. I promise it will stop going near the door.

Let him outside, but only on a leash. Give him rewards and treats when he acts good on the leash. Hopefully he will associate only being outside with being on the leash. Also, keep a water bottle by the door and if he tries to run out when not on the leash, spray him. Spraying always works for me with my cat.

Cats don't like loud noises so whenever my cat would get close to the door I would stomp my foot and yell no in a deep loud voice. He doesn't go near the door anymore.

bring a toy with you and as you get to the door throw the toy and the kitten should go running for it.
