This morning, I found my cat in my shed laying down meowing.
Not in pain apperantly. He was fine earlier in the morning.
What would cause this?
And, is it possible he could heal on his own?

Or, should I take him to the .........?

First on my list would be the possibility that he has either been hit by a car or attacked by a wild animal. He could have a broken pelvis. Second on my list would be a blood clot or broken back.

He needs to be seen at the vet today. Most likely he is in tremendous pain. If he has been hit by a car, he could have internal bleeding. If he has been harmed by another animal, he's at high risk for infection. He needs treatment and at the very least pain medication.

Feel along his spine and see if there is an obvious break (tail hanging limply, etc) or a tender spot where he experiences pain. That's your part done. Next, take him to the vet and let the vet examine him. Then you may or may not have a hard decision to make. I wish you the best of luck but it does sound a lot like a spinal injury.

This happened to my dog last year. It was a a problem with his back. We took him in thinking we would have to put him down, but he stood up at the Vets office. He was ok for a while, his legs would give out from time to time. He has passed away, he was 15.

This may be a case of feline leukemia or feline aids...also this happened to my Pekingese puppy when she had a tick and as soon as we found the tick and pulled it out she was better...maybe this happens to cats too? You should DEFINITELY consult a vet! oh and look for little tiny holes or wounds that may be from a BB gun...this happened to a friend of mine.

You must take him to the vet immediately. He may be having kidney problems with crystals blocking his urine. This can kill him fast if you don't take action. Find an emergency animal hospital and take him NOW!
