i'm addicted to chocolate (and yes, i consider white chocolate to be chocolate, but that's another debate), and i'm not the biggest fan of nuts in general. but everwhere i go, there are chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cookies with white chocolate chips, but no plain white chocolate chip cookies without macadamia nuts. is it illegal? do the nuts offset a poisonous reaction with the white chocolate chips that i'm not aware of? are they substituting pricey white chocolate chips with cheap macadamia nuts and hoping that people won't notice? i'm going crazy here...

The white chocolate macadamia cookies that your finding are sold to stores, bakeries, restaurants and coffee shops in premade batches of cookie dough. The retailer bakes them and sells them as fresh baked. Try little mom and pop bakeries, off the beaten path. If not you'll have to bake your own. You can buy white chocolate chips, but their quality is suspect. I just buy my own favourite chocolate and chop it into bit myself. There is no reason you couldn't do this with white chocolate.

Then hook-up with a talented lady and treat her right and you will get those nutless cookies.

white chocolate chips taste the best with macadamia nuts. i've also had cookies with milk chocolate chip and macadamia nuts, but the two don't taste good together. (i've had my share of both--i used to work at Mrs. Field's cookies. a perk was taking home a few pounds of cookies each week.)

the white chocolate has a mild taste, it's creamy, sweet, and melts in the mouth. allows you to really taste the macadamia nuts (think of the white chocolate chip as the supporting cast, and the macadamia as the main actor/star, which explains why the nuts are so pricey;-), whereas the milk chocolate chip overpowers the macadamia and all you taste is the chocolate.

because the white chocolate chip has such a mild flavor and lacks the flavor depth of milk or semi-sweet to support the baked cookie dough, this would explain why there are no "white chocolate chip cookie." :-)

Take a breather and chill out - here's a recipe for white chocolate cookies WITHOUT THE NUTS!! Hope you like em :)

White Chocolate Cookies

1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup dried apricots, coarsely chopped *you can take out the apricots*
4 ounces white chocolate, coarsely chopped
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a mixer, beat the butter and brown sugar until blended. Beat in the egg and vanilla and almond extracts until combined. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt, and mix until combined. With a wooden spoon, mix in the apricots and white chocolate. Drop the batter by tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheets, spacing 2 inches apart. Bake until the edges are lightly brown, about 10 minutes. Cool on wire racks.

Use a recipe for Mexican wedding cakes and sub the Macadamia nuts for the pecans. Make into ping pong ball sized balls and press to 1/2" with the bottom of a wet glass and bake. Melt the chocolate in a bowl (I use a hairdryer-- it's so easy that way!) Dip the bottoms of the cookies in the chocolate and turn upside down to dry. Flip them over and with fork wave chocolate ribbons over the tops of the cookies. If you want to go extra decadant you can also make thumbprint cookies and fill them with apricot jam.

cause it's such a yummy combination. I prefer chocolate chip with walnuts and only the Toll House original recipe will do!!! toll house does have the white chips. A true cookie nut will make whatever cookies her little heart desires.

I think because it has become common place and people like them. Buy your own white chocolate chips and make plain ones. Somae bakeries will do special orders for you too.
