3 reasons that stopped me from believing
1) History: There have been thousands of Gods perhaps millions over the course of human history. Gods like Zeus and Amen-Ra were around for much longer then any of the modern day Religions save hinduism and perhaps buddism but don't quote me on the last one.
2) Human Beings: Human begins are greedy. Those with power want nothing more then more power. Being/knowing the salvation and damnation of the soul as well as having the answer to all of life's little questions makes you one hell of a guy. People are ignorant and lazy. They would much rather betold what to think instead of learning how to think.
3) Ego: Religon feeds the need to belong. If people can bond on any level (faith, patriotism, favorite ice cream flavor) they can unify and create marvelous things. I do not believe in god however I do believe in the power of faith, because I believe in the power of the mind. ANd one of the things that the mind cannot coop with is when it is either wrong or something bad happens essentially more answers.
I have accepted that there is no god because I except that religion is man made, If there is a god he lost interest in us a long time ago, I have accpeted that once you die that's it, and that we really are only significant to ourselves.

Reason one, I know God by the faith I have in his Word, and his word tell us He created man in his own image. (Genesis 1:26) in the King James Version BIBLE. Not only did he create man but the earth, the stars, the sun, the moon, all the inhabitants of the waters and land and gave man ruler over all. (Also found in Genesis) Love your creator. Reason two,he loved us so much that he gave his only begotten Son Jesus to die for us, while we were yet sinners, so we could have everlasting Life.(John 3:16) You can learn by reading the New Testament of the BIBLE God makes the rules about all things. You love Him because He first loved us.(1 John 4:19 ) Reason three,He has prepared a place for us if we obey his Word,( Read John 14:1-4 ) in this place there will be no more nights it will be a bright day always,(Revelation 22:5 ) there will be no more crying there, no more dying there , no more pain there, a place more beautiful than anything on earth, you must seek Him I know you want to go. ( Read Revelation Chapters 21,22 ).

If there is an all powerful loving god, why is this world so cruel?
An omnipotent, benevolent god has an eternity to think up a world, and this is the best it can do?
I hate to tell you, but you just are not as important as you think you are. Why does everyone think that there is a god that loves them and hates all the same people they do? This has gone on since the beginning of recorded time. Long before these "real" religions popped up.
Additional Details:
I'm loving these believer arguments. "cause my parents do" is the best. Bible quotes are always lame. "He sent his son" is about as hollow as you can get in proving something. and since science can not explain "free will" at this time, there must be a god. That also used to explain lightning and the plague, but as science expands it is the church that will again be forced to retreat.

I don't believe because:
1. There is no evidence of a god. I do not consider the Bible or the fact that we are here on this planet to be evidence.
2. The Bible is a flawed work, written by many and translated by many. There is so much supernatural nonsense in the Bible, that it's a mystery to me how it could be taken seriously by anyone.
3. The God of Christianity is cruel. I have no respect for anyone who would sacrifice their own child, regardless of the reason.

What's the mystical magic of 3.
1. St. Thomas laid out a perfectly logical explaination for why there was a God. Somewhere there was a spark a ignitor a prime mover that set everthing in motion. There has to be a beginning somewhere.
2. Quantum mechanics. It illustrates how little of what there is to be known that we actually know. And that some how there is an invisible (to us) connection between everything. We certainly don't have the information necessary to rule out the existence of God.
Thats all I need. Neither of these tell us anything of the nature of God, or of his concern, if any , of our existence. These are beyond our ability to know and are left to a matter of faith.

Seeming universal harmony and purpose, and evidence of design in the physical laws which govern the universe. Subjective reasoning or feeling that God exists. That's two of the main reasons why people believe although each of them is open to challenge.

Sadly, I can only think of one thing -- there is no law or theory of science that would allow the existence of free will in this universe, and many that do require that free will be only an illusion (computational theory, physics, etc).
What would be the value of a deity if there is no free will?
So no, there is no deity as far as I can tell. End of discussion really, until we figure out a way to reconcile all we know of science with free will.
---------
Apparently, some people are misunderstanding me, so let me rephrase this:
Deity without free will is meaningless.
There is no free will.
Therefore, Deity is meaningless.
I am a nihilist -- I do not believe in a deity, free will, or even existence itself, since none of it can be proven on first principles.

1. Look at the complexity of just the human brain .. no one has been able to duplicate one (not really) an that is only part of the human body
2. Look at a tree do you truthfully think that could just HAPPEN?!?!
3. Look at the Big Bang theory honestly do you think that things just happened an earth just happens to be just the right distance from the sun to give the right amt of light etc to provide for all the creatures?

I believe in God I just think he is evil.
#1 Getting slapped across the face when I was seven by a nun named Sister Celene because I asked the question of how can God be the father, the son, and the holy ghost.
#2 My aunt constantly quotes scripture and watches Mother Angelica all the time, tells me that I am going to hell because I don't behave like she wants. Also in one breath she slams me for being judgmental, and in the next breath calls me a whore because I wear work out wear like on the Taebo infomercials.
#3 The priest at the Catholic school that I went too told my mother to divorce my father and then told the entire school about my therapy sessions with him which my mother forced me to do.
#4 Ripping up my father's will and taking over his funeral arrangements and having a circus freak show instead of what he wanted which was to be cremated. Also I insisted on close casket and my aunt kept opening it up. I wanted to slam the *ucking lid on her head and decapitate her. Then another aunt sat directly behind me and was happily chatting about her *ucking vacation to the Panama Canal. I wanted to crush her wind pipe. I could go on and on but I think you get the point. Also they foot the funeral bill on me, how ****** up is that?

The four best reasons not to believe are:
1.) God is silent.
2.) God is inert.
3.) The evidence is inadequate.
4.) Christianity predicts a different universe.
I wish I could take credit for this, but Richard Carrier puts it much more eloquently than I ever could...
