I don't think my dog really watches the TV, but he definitely responds to what he hears on it. If a dog barks on TV, he barks back and sometimes it seems as if he can see the dog, but I'm not sure that he can. The best however is a doorbell. When he hears it he races to the front door and barks at us to let his new friend in! Also, he is most entertained when the TV is off and he can see his reflection! He thinks he has a new playmate, but really he is just barking at himself...so cute and pretty funny too! So I guess my answer would be yes! A TV can entertain him even if it's not on! ;-)

Our dog won't watch TV, but if we're watching TV and there's a dog barking on the show/in the movie, she suddenly gets up and alert and starts running around barking like crazy, thinking there's another dog in the house. Or if she hears a doorbell on TV that sounds like our doorbell (the Domino's doorbell is a good example), she'll run to the door and bark, thinking that someone's at our door.

My dog watches animal planet all the time. LOL When we travel and stay in a motel, by turning on the TV for her, it keeps her from barking at every sound she hears while we are out of the room. My cats also watch tv, but not as often as my dog.

Yes, I have seen MANY dogs (including my own) that benifit from having a television on. Some will watch it, others just like the companionable sound of it when their owners are gone.

Some dogs. Not mine, but my brother's Pug LOVES to watch TV. You can turn on Animal Planet and she sits and watches very attentively, even pawing at the TV screen sometimes. It's hilarious! Her favorite thing to watch is Meer Cat Manor. I usually keep mine TV on just for noise if I'm not home. Whether my dogs appreciate it or not I'll never no.

They do not know what it is... they cannot see 2D very well so they are just watching the movements on the tv more than anything else... which I assume they find it entertaining.
