Jesus and Christianity are not the only subjects to be discussed on this site, though some of the Christian extremists seem to think so. So, yes, Jim, you can, and should, ask questions not about Jesus.

Go ahead and ask. There is a difference between asking for knowledge and asking just to rile someone up. When asked for knowledge, I have no problem with it. When asked to rile someone up, that's insulting.
Example: "I want to know why Xreligion believes this" is a valid question while adding on "because it's clear that Xreligion is stupid" becomes insulting. And Xreligion can be Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Athiesim, Agnostic, Wicca, Paganism and so on.
So, ask your question.

Why not? I think that what annoys people here is someone who is asking a smart-mouth question about another religion just to ridicule.

why not as you have the free will to ask any question you want as long as it fits in this category. there are a number of questions here not related to JESUS.
