My parents are divorced and my father and I haven't had the greatest relationship. After 6 years of pain I've finally come to terms that I don't need him in my life and want nothing to do with him. I'm ready to put it all behind me.

I want to get a tattoo to symbolize that I'm moving on with my life and that I won't let the idiotic things my father does affect me anymore. Also, that I'm strong enough to deal with the emotional pain he incures and that I can get over it.

I was thinking of the following:

1) tumbling leaf = "turning over a new leaf".
2) dove = at peace with the situation...

One of my friends suggested a phoenix.

I already have a tattoo in my lower back and I'm looking to get something small, approx 4 inches X 4 inches, maybe a little bigger.

Do you have any suggestions?

I actually like your idea of the tumbling leaf. it's really unique. my sister got chinese symbols for strength. i know it sounds cliche but it has a lot of meaning for her and she's gone through a similiar situation. Maybe that might help.

I was once in your same situation. Dont get a tattoo for moving away from something b/c u dont know what the future holds and who might come back. My dad and I now have an awesome relationship which didnt much exist before my parents divorce. If you must, get something that symbolizes forgiveness, change, and humility.

I like the "Dove." You are burying the past and the Dove represents the new, "flying in grace and in dignity."
