I agree, if you want to go expensive either the American, Capitol Grille, or the Savoy.

For barbeque my favorite is Arthur Bryants followed by Jack Stack.

My favorite neighborhood place to go for dinner (and best value for the money) is Twin Cities at 43rd and State line. All the hot spiced shrimp you can eat for $14.00. They also cook each order as it comes in so the shrimp is never mushy and overcooked.

It really depends on what type of food you like. Of course Gate's BBQ is a popular place if you are looking for BBQ. Manny's is a great Mexican restaurant. Capital Grill if you are wanting to dine in style. Check out the KC resaurant guide on-line. They have tons of places listed and regular people reviewing them.

Don't go to chain restaurants, go local to get the real taste of KC.

Depends on which Kansas City. KCMO would be Lidia's; The American; Stroud's (good comfort food); Manny's (great Mexican...but don't let the sour cream near anything leather); Hereford House; KCKS or near there: Copelands.

If you like seafood, McCormick and Schmicht's on the plaza. If not, Peppercorn Duck Club at the Hyatt. You can't go wrong with either.
