Its my dad's 51st b-day, he is obsessed with hiking, not sure what to get him?

Lightweight tent that squashes down to almost nothing. GPS compass. Fancy gaiters if he winter hikes. Ditto good wool balaclava. Backpack stove. Year's supply of freeze-dried turkey tetrazini etc. (yuch!) New egornomic snowshoes (yes, really). Solar powered flashlight, solar powered radio.

Does he take short hikes or long hikes? A jug for water. Go to Yahoo Search and type: what to get for an avid hiker.

A pair of really nice top of the line hiking boots ( about 175.00) and gloves to match.

Maybe he'd like a 'camelback'...it's like a backpack that holds water with a long tube to drink from.....i'm sure you could find one on a hiking store type website....good luck..happy b-day to dad!

Backpacks are good ideas and boots are good .Take a look at what Gander Mtn has and hope you find a gift for him .

you can get him those little balls that make your shoes smell better. I got them one year for christmas for my sneakers when I was done at the gym from my parents and they're great....
