How do possible (not sure) alcoholic or drug user act in a relationship - for example, are there mental blocks in between sex encounters - phoning every couple of weeks for a BC, says some very wonderful things when you are together, but then does not call again for a couple of weeks - wants you to call him, but never returns the call until the next time he is ready? There are things said that lead me to believe he could have feelings, but why not call in between??

If he's not calling the way he should that means he's just not that into you. And if you suspect alcohol and drug problems why pursue it ? Relationships are hard enough today without adding in something like a drinking or drug problem. Leave this one be. Dont call anymore and dont accept the calls. You'll be better off.

I don't think it is his drinking or drug abuse. He is a player and only wants you for a BC. As long as you keep giving it up to him, that is all you will have with him. If you want something else from him, you need to recognize the type of guy that can give you a relationship or can't. And don't lie to yourself about it.
It sounds like you are lying to yourself about this guy.

He is sidetracked with something else. Could be work, drugs, another person, past issues. He is too scared to be around you all the time because he isn't ready for what you want, or he doesn't want it.

I think a BC is all he is interested in. Either accept the relationship for what it is, or move on.
