People on here seem to either believe that the Bible is absolutly to be taken word for word or that it is either absolute crap. Why is this so?

Chazerai: I don't appreciate you cpy and pasting previous answers even if they are your own.

Personally I understand how peple assume it is the word of G-d and thus accepting every word, but I am more confused about why people do the exact opposite.

Great question!

Please consider these tidbits:

Jews for Jesus = Vegetarians for Hamburgers

God? He or She?

Church? Christianity? Jesus? Dying?

What is the Imacculate Conception supposed to mean?

Does Imacculate Conception have anything to do with "VIRGIN BIRTH"?

Google Imacculate Conception and learn that is NOT.

What else do you falsely believe?

Jesus, the basis of Christianity? .

If Jesus died, he could NOT have been God.

Can Gods die?

If Jesus 'died' on Friday and 'undied' on Sunday, what else besides Saturday was sacrificed?

Did Jesus give up Saturday for us?

No Eternal sacrifice, big deal for a day!

If Jesus died for our sins, there should not be any more sins, else why go through with it?.

If Jesus really DIED, he should be dead, dead, dead!

Life after death is like virginity after childbirth.

If the flesh of Jesus died, what was seen walking and talking on Sunday?

If you believe this stuff, you are not going to like the folks who don't. You want them to believe it too to validate you.

Christians want everyone to convert to their non-thinking in order to be 'saved'.

Believing and not thinking is like choosing to be lost.

P.S.

[Do Christians on Yahoo! answers feel righteous when they report questions they disagree or disapprove of?

Hey that's cool, nine of pentacles I agree with you, that certain participants report abuse just because they don't like the answer or question, which in itself is abuse just consider the source, narrow minded and pompous .]

They or rather I, base it on the effect that it has had on my life. Going to Catholic school, being slapped by nuns if I ask a question, having an aunt that only quotes scripture and watches Mother Angelica all day and night. Having a priest telling my mother to leave my father and divorce him right at graduation from high school. Being told I am going to hell unless I behave in the way that they say I should. Experiences like that make me tend to think the Bible is crap. I mean if you read the bible you should NOT treat people like that ya know.

I know you will probably never see this as you would need to wade down through the swamp of inaccuracies above. OH, Well i tried.

It shouldn't matter whether you are Jewish or Christian, this question should be answered Logically and straightforward.
so i will need to use quotations from the bible.

"Why do people think the Bible is all or nothing?
"People on here seem to either believe that the Bible is absolutly to be taken word for word or that it is either absolute crap. Why is this so?"

Matthew 5:18 (King James Version)
18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

2 Chronicles 19:9 (New International Version)
9 He gave them these orders: "You must serve faithfully and wholeheartedly in the fear of the LORD.

We are talking religious beliefs here, there can be no compromise in that, regardless of which religion you are.
Because the "Bible" is the foundation of Christianity, Any compromise reduces the adherents faith to mere words.
and there are many "Christians" who claim to believe but do not.
Just as the jewish people revere the "Torah" and it's truths
so christians do the same with their texts.
Would we change the Torah to fit our beliefs or is our faith in G-d
based on what we have read in the Torah?
Would we change the "Bible" for the same reason?
It is either the truth or not, there is no grey area, nor can there be one with faith.

G-d talking to the churches in Revelation 3:15-17 (King James Version)
15I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

Some Christians put the Bible forward as their 'proof' of God. They are determined that every word was inspired by God himself and as such must be flawless, barring a few typos. It would seem that this would make it easy to disprove but it can easily say two opposite things and those Christians will insist that both are correct. For example God, in the old Testament, is a God of Wrath but in the New Testament He suddenly changes to a mysteriously benevolent Being. (He just wants us to like him.) Those Christians can easily 'explain' this to their own satisfaction.

If you buy a washing machine and want to know how to work it properly, if you had any intelligence you would read ALL the instructions. You wouldn't read the first few pages & skip the rest.

The Bible is God's handbook to us - His instructions to us for guidance 2 TIMOTHY 3:16,17.
It must be followed in it's entirety. You can't just pick some parts to follow & discard the rest.
Otherwise just as surely as you wouldn't get the washing machine to work properly, you won't get the full benefit of our Creator's guidance and have peace & fulfillment in your life

As for anyone who discards the instruction completely - they may claim to be content in their atheistic life but they will never be truly happy

The whole Bible isnt even in the bible so the whole thing doesnt make sense when its believed for all or nothing. THe bible did not fall from the sky. Man decided what would go into it and what would not.

Because every single reference in the bible that can be proved either way has been proved false.

Pi does not equal 3, the earth is not flat, have corners, or stand on pillars, beetles have 6 legs not 4, etc...

you haven't seen any of my answers. I believe some of the bible is accurate. But it was written by man .Therefore i believe a good bit of it is made of stories designed to teach lessons.Even the words in red i don't think Jesus had a stenographer recording his words.

>>>God, Goddess, Gods, Jesus, Allah, regardless of in case you realy exist you will strike me ineffective for this sacrilige at modern <<< Did it ensue to you that perchance God isn't likely to "strike you ineffective" because of the fact he's slicing you some slack? supplying you with yet another danger? he's like that, you realize. putting God to the attempt isn't a smart element to do, in spite of the undeniable fact that.

Believers vs. non-believers.

I, myself, and a devoted Roman Catholic, and absolutely believe the Bible.
