The lifespan of a couch is 5 years. A leather set can last for many more years. Leather wears but the wear is natural and adds to the appeal of the furniture. It is easier to clean than cloth and goes with just about any decor. Now for the draw backs, it's more expensive, cold in the winter (needs throws) and you really need to research the design before buying. Ex: Make sure the arms don't have sewing across the center. Don't let seams show where ever there would be weight on the furniture. I personally have leather and wouldn't trade it. A nice throw and pillows warms it up immediately.

Cloth! leather is cold during winters and ur back sweats like anything on a leather couch in summer, its scratched easily, ull hav to dust ur leather couches often and it doesnt give a cosy warm feeling to the room...cloth is much more practical and uve a whole lot of variety to choose from

Leather is best, it looks better than cloth (in my opinion) but also the smell of leather it produces in your room which you notice as soon as you walk in is superb (this lasts for years and years). We have both a leather and cloth couch, by the leather one is my fav.

I love the feel of leather but if you wear shorts or skirts, you tend to stick to the leather when you get up and it's painful to the legs.
Of course, soft Italian leather doesn't do that as much. If you have indoor pets with claws, go for the cloth as continual leather rips and repairs will get costly.

An upholstered one is more comfortable, but the leather looks so much better. I have leather. I don't spend a lot of time on my couch though. If I want comfort, I'll lay on my bed for that!

That really depends on your own taste. I prefer cloth simply because leather can feel sticky on your body if you perspire; but as far as cleaning goes, I suppose leather is the best. Just have to watch for puncture marks, etc. You will work it out. Good luck to you.

Leather. Easier to clean for mild stains and spills. Looks more classy too.
If it's cloth, liquid will soak right through!
but it all depends on the rest of your furniture too.

If you can afford it, go for leather. If something spills on it, you can just wipe it off. If you like the feeling of fabric, get a nice blanket or quilt and put it over the couch.

Leather looks great until it stretches. It's cold to sit on for most of the year, and scratches easily by pets or belts.
Cloth is probably more practical if you buy removable and washable covers, and will stay new-looking longer if you wash the covers regularly, as it helps keep the shape.
