Not necessarily.
If they choose not to be influenced, that wouldn't be a problem.
It's not easy, of course.

Yes, often.
The messages in rap songs often promote things like fighting, gangster activity, drugs, premarital sex and other illegal and/or inappropriate activities.
The rap videos, full of materialism, and which often feature rappers draped in scantily-clad women, teach children to be greedy and to objectify women.
I do like some rap songs, but many rap songs today have quite awful messages if you pay attention.
I completely agree with the previous answerer that parents have the responsiblity to take care of the messages their children are getting. They can do this, in part, by preventing their children from listening to inappropriate music.

Parents wanted to ban Elvis because he was bad for their children, and The Beatles too. (They were too wild and sexy.) That's my grandparents. When I was a teen my parents wanted to ban bands like W.A.S.P and Mötley Crüe. (Sex drugs and rock n' roll.) Now that I'm a parent I figure that the music didn't do either me or my parents any harm and I don't plan on banning any music for my kids. It's my responsibility as a parent to teach my kids right from wrong, that's not something that I leave to media and the music industry. When the kids learn to question what they hear and see, when they are informed about what it's really like, then they look at the music/media in a totally different way.

There's a growing sect of christian rappers though... Ever heard the song 'Baby got Book?' (referring to the Bible)
Not to mention rappers like Will Smith and even Snoop Dog (for a short while anyway- after he put down the grass; yes i know he picked it back up but still, he tried)
So i guess the answer is simply 'not all of them'.

no, its the parents responsibility to guide their children in the right direction and have people in their lives to set positive examples . they arent role models, some of them dont set out to be, i dont think alot of them think about how it will affect the children when they write their music.

We watch what we eat...we exercise...yet we pollute our minds with trash, lies, sex, violence, and hate. It's a shame.
