The Radius must have been crushed between the Humerous and the Ulna, fracturing (inline with) the radius at the end. I do not think a splint will work. Would pinning the end of the bone hold it together better than, rest and natural healhing of the bone. The first couple days she refused to put the foot down, now she wants to run around if we do not restrain her. I guess the pain killers and anti-inflammitories are working. I would rather not opt for surgury, but do I have a choice.

As we don't know your dog's age, or circumstances it would be impossible to give the correct advice here..My 1 year old, hit by a car, healed very well on his own, with very controlled activity. However, if I had been unable to stay home and watch him like a hawk, further intervention would have been required..
The BEST counsel I can give, would be to get a second veterinary opinion..Your vet will give you the ex rays to take to another vet, to help you make the best decision for your dog.

Your vet didn't tell you if you have a choice? If not, find a new vet! If you are hiding behind this question because you do not want to spend the money you need to be honest with yourself. You can't keep the poor dog on drugs forever and she may be crippled in the future or have additional problems. When you own a dog you have to ask yourself from the start what are you willing to be responsible for. Are YOU willing to naturally heal a hairline fracture? No? Then why should your puppy?

I believe the dog that played Ripley on this episode of Bones is a belgian malinois. They are one of my favorite breeds and are used primarily for police and military work. I would like to view the anti-dog fighting commericial online as I was watching Bones at a friend's house and had a hard time listening over a 2 year old throwing a tantrum! Which organization put on the commerical? I might be able to find it before they air it on Fox. Great episode - love Cesar Milan!

I think only a vet, after seeing the x-ray, would be able to tell you the odds for various treatments.

I would take him to a vet and have him to an xray. If it hasn't healed by now you need to get it fixed

I think this is a wonderful question for a vet who specializes in orthopedics!

I would do what your ortho vet recommends.
