Will there be a grill involved? Hard to beat hotdogs.
Otherwise, cheese, wine, bread, grapes are always a good choice.

A good Quiche, dressed salad (and/or pasta salad), potato salad, cheese straws, sandwiches, cold roast chicken (don't forget the napkins, as finger food is messy) crisps with dips, Crusty French bread, gazpacho, fruit salad, fruit juice with vodka to drink, or wine. The most important thing is not to take foods that will melt or go off if not refrigerated for a few hours.

Get a French loaf and some salamis or pepperonis. It's simple to make sandwiches and very ideal for a picnic with friends.A jar of olives, cheese dips and some crackers ...very Italian eh?If you need smthin more, boil some rice, cool it and mix that with some cucumber dices, cheese, tomatoes, tuna shreded(canned),boiled eggs dices, olive oil and half tsp of vinegar and pack in an airtight conatiner for an exquisite rice salad.Chopped fruits in an airtight container which you can mix later with some red wine, shake and voila! you'll get the best macedonia as desert.Cheers in advance.

Unless we feel like really cooking (in which case I'll usually make fried chicken), we usually just take several different sandwich meats, condiments, cheese, and bread. Then we make sandwiches at the picnic. It's the easiest way to do it, but it's not fancy at all.
