as of Jan. 8, 2007 you will need a passport to enter the U.S. while flying from another country. if you do not have a passport you will go thru a secondary inspection and have to prove you are an American citizen. it takes about 4-6 weeks to get a passport and it cost $97.00 to get one.

As of today you can get there without a passport, whether its by plane or boat ect.. but once you are there, to be able to travel to the different islands a passport may be required. Its a situation dependent thing now. And as previously stated, starting in late December the US will be requiring you to travel with it no matter where you are going. At times you will be allowed to leave the country without one, the only problem is that you wont be able to get back into the US without one. So I would recommend to take yours if your not traveling soon. I just went there and there was no need for a passport, and that was a month ago.. so if you are traveling soon.. go, enjoy and be happy..

Depends on what you are traveling to the Bahamas. Starting January 8th 2007 it will be required for all international travel this includes Mexico, Canada, Caribbean, S. America, Bermuda and also San Juan Puerto Rico (even though it is a US Territory).

Passport are quite backed up now with applications so if you need to get one, go apply right away to try and avoid having to expedite the passport which can cost easily 60 - 75 dollars (not sure what it is nowadays) With expediting you are not only paying for the over night charges, but to get bumped ahead of the line to ensure getting it on time for your trip.

When it asks your travel dates write down a week before your actual travel date.

Have a great trip and if you need help in arranging your travel feel free to contact me.

New Requirements for Travelers

October 3, 2006: This information does not reflect important changes to the WHTI expected from pending legislation. We will update this page once that legislation has been finalized.

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. In order to facilitate the implementation of this requirement, the Administration is proposing to complete it in phases following a proposed timeline, which will be published in the Federal Register in the near future.

In the proposed implementation plan, which is subject to a period of initial public comment, the Initiative will be rolled out in phases, providing as much advance notice as possible to the affected public to enable them to meet the terms of the new guidelines. The proposed timeline will be as follows:

January 8, 2007 - Requirement applied to all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
January 1, 2008 - Requirement extended to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.
This is a change from prior travel requirements and will affect all United States citizens entering the United States from countries within the Western Hemisphere who do not currently possess valid passports. This new requirement will also affect certain foreign nationals who currently are not required to present a passport to travel to the United States. Most Canadian citizens, citizens of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, and to a lesser degree, Mexican citizens will be affected by the implementation of this requirement.

beginning certificate could suffice yet you would possibly want to favor to examine with the cruiselines. some are inquiring for passports even with if a beginning certificate is adequate. also, in case you and your husband are separated you should get some style of consent notarized from him because of custody topics. The cruise lines should be in a position to respond to all of your questions as they manage those issues well-known.
