I know it's not all, but when you champion yourself as a moral and ethical person, you will then be scrutinized for even the slightest misgiving - and by slight I mean pedophilia, money laundering, leaving the disenfranchised behind to die in a great flood etc.

I think it is becaus they value power over all else. Statements about morality are just what they need to say to get power. Actually being moral is irrelevant.

I am constantly amazed at how those on the outside judge those on the inside. We armchair quarterback everything. Every non-Christian in the world knows when I behave in an un-Christian fashion before I do, and I have a graduate degree in Christian theology.

The senior president Bush was publicly criticized for lying. One was not a lie, it was a state secret. The other, "read my lips, no new taxes", was not a lie because he didn't intend to raise taxes--he did a deal with the devil and the democrats indeed gave him one thing for another and perpetual grief ever after for giving in. He was the girl who was promised the moon before being s-crewed, then afterwards blared to the world for being a whore. But then we follow that with a president who could scarsely tell the truth.

Everytime we vote, we chose. Sometimes we have to make choices as the lesser of two evils. I honestly flipped a coin once to decide between Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum (Ford and Carter)--Carter got my vote. Why do we elect immoral republicans? Because the democrats are so often seemingly more immoral. Why, for that matter, are there "neoconservatives"? Because comparatively conservative democrats have flooded the party. The real conservatives, many of them distinctly Christian, are outnumbered. The mess we got is because it was the best we could do with what we had. But don't look at us too smugly, you've got piles of scoundrels in your corner, but that's not news now, is it?

Because they are christians!
That is just how they are!

I know many people think "to be a christian" means to be a good person, but no, I don't agree to that. Christians have done (and still do today, everyday) terrible things to other people, and they think their "Lord" will justify that. They even believe their "Lord' gave this planet to them and they are free to do with it whatever they please. And once they have destroyed it - well, then their "Lord" will probably take care of that too, maybe he will provide them with another planet to live on, or they are all being "saved" in another way.
Since they imagine their "Lord" is almighty, they trust he will magickally do something about whatever problems they have caused.

So, don't you think these christians are just being christians, by what you described?

They don't need to help any flood victims, because it was probably the "Lord's" will that they die!!?? (I need to throw up now)

Well you are asking a subjective question. For all the immoral ones, there are just as many who are actually moral. Same can be said about any political allignment. Also, supposedly open-minded liberals can become very closed minded when your opionion differs from theirs, and they claim to respect people's freedoms and opinions. The fact is no one is perfect because we are all human.

I should also mention that you should judge a group on the actions of a few. Some people on here may think it's fine to do that, but that's the same mentality that causes things like racism.

I don't think it's so much that they're simply immoral, so much as they're are hypocritical.

If a person (let's say, a liberal) is pro-choice, then it's not against her personal ethics to have an abortion.

On the other hand, if someone writes laws concerning missing & exploited children and then exploits those children, he's not only immoral, but a hypocrite too.

Its called displacement. They displace onto other people the ideas they find exciting and then they say they are not their ideas. It is a way for them to condemn others without condemning themselves for the same things.

Neo-conservatists, so-called christians republicans are immoral BECAUSE they are not REALLY christians, they pretend to be christians so the real, naive christians will give them their votes.
