White or a light neutral. However, if you choose to paint a dark color, be sure to paint the ceiling as well. With the ceiling being the same as the walls you loose a sense of how small the room is vs. having a white ceiling.
In the end I would paint whichever color makes you happy. :)

Deep colors (jewel tones), believe it or not! The dark color will make the corners of the room recede; making the room look larger. Don't pick from the darkest colors available - they are used for accent only. Choose from the deepest tones. The best way to make a room look larger? Use minimal furniture, preferably with storage space. Keep the room uncluttered (if possible). The walls should also be 'clutter-free' - 1 or 2 pieces of artwork is enough. As far as knick knacks - you only need 2 or 3 pieces (either photo frame, vase, flower arrangement), and they should be large. Their large size will work ONLY if you use 2 or 3. As far as the floors - Keep them simple, don't add area rugs, if possible. Do not push all of the furniture against walls. Find at least one piece to use kitty cornered, this will help the room look 'less boxy'. Better yet, if at all possible put one piece of furniture where it won't be touching any walls. If this room has a coffee table, get rid of it !! End tables (with storage space) are a much better choice.

Very light tan. White is too antiseptic. Also use light coloured woods or wicker for furnishings.
