It eats mice, and small rodents. Training them is very diffacult, you must take your time, these birds are very head strong and stubborn.

I'm not sure where you live, but in the United States (and I'm sure in other countries as well) keeping a bird of prey as a pet is ILLEGAL. So before you do any training, call your local government agency that regulates wildlife and be sure that you are not breaking any laws by keeping it. If it is against the law and you still decide to keep the hawk, you risk paying a hefty fine and even jailtime if you are caught in possession of this bird.
The best thing you can do for this bird is not to keep him as a pet and train him tricks but intstead give him over to a wildlife rehabber. I work at a zoo as a raptor trainer and we have too many birds that were confiscated by the government from people that tried to keep baby birds of prey as pets and now can never be released back into the wild because of their dependency on people to be fed. PLEASE surrender this bird to a wildlife rescue group.

If you’re in the USA, you need licensing and permits to hold or own one… yes, even an injured one.
Find a rescue organization, Wildlife Rehabber or a trained falconer for some more information. Also, if you are in the States, you can contact your local Fish & Game department to get the contact info you need.
Don't attempt raising a raptor by yourself without any training!!!!

I have seen people training hawks by tying one end of a string to one of the legs of the hawks and the other end to their own hands. They stand a few feets away from the hawk and hold out pieces of meat with their hands wearing gloves. When the hawk sees the meat it flies toward the meat to eat it and this is how they are trained.Hawks are birds of prey and eat meat,so try feeding it small pieces of beef and chicken.

Raptors do not make good pets. You need a falconers licence to own one in most states.
Hawks, as all raptors are carnivors- they need live or fresh killed prey.
They don't tame well, and when they grow up they can turn agressive when their breeding instincts kick in- they have wicked talons and beaks and they use them... on the people who raised them.
Consider finding a wild life rescue organisation locally and giving him up- I know they are 'cool', but they don't make good pets. If you have an interest in hawks, and you contact a wildlife rescue place near you and bring him in, they may have opportunities for you to help raise, train and release hawks- which can be really cool.

Whoe, buddy, where did you get it from? The person you bought it from should have given you a load of info. You're best bet is to find a falconer. I know, you have a hawk not a falcon, same thing. This person should know the different breeds and the best way to handle each. Also he/she should give you some hands on instruction. There are falconer societies all over the internet start there.

I dearly hope this is a joke.
Handlers train for years to know what to do for birds of prey. YEARS before they even think of getting a hawk.
Why didn't you do the research before you got the bird?
Please call a wildlife rehabilitation center. A veterinarian will have the number. They can tell you what to do.
Do you have the proper permits? If not, you are facing criminal charges. Most birds of prey are protected species and NOT PETS!!!
This isn't a parakeet to feed and care for, it can seriously hurt you. You can kill it with your ignorance.
Please turn it over to the proper authorities.
