I have a car stereo (2006 Hyundai Sonata) that says on the face something like "MP3 enabled". I want to play my iPod through the stereo, but there is no jack to connect the iPod to the stereo that I can see. I know I can buy one of several devices that will send the sound through the car's FM radio, but then what does the stereo mean when it says "MP3 enabled"? I could play through ANY FM radio with one of those devices, whether the stereo was "MP3 enabled" or not. Any idea what is the significance of "MP3 enabled"?

Oh, and no need to suggest that I look in the car manual (not there) or ask Hyundai. Yeah, I could do that, but I'm trying to find out if someone here knows the answer first.

MP3 enabled means you can play burned cds where the songs are mp3 songs.... just a fancier term for it.

It means that if you burn mp3 cd's instead of audio cd's it will play those too. Mp3's take up a lot less space than audio (wav) files, so you could put a lot more on a typical cd.

Mp3 enabled is not for your ipod, you'll have to get an ipod fm transmitter to play over your car stereo.

Your Sonata is equipped with a CD player which can play Mp3's. Simply burn mp3's onto a CD and pop it in.

For iPod (mp3 player) connectivity you will need to get a new car deck with an AUX (auxiliary) input.

As an example you can get a Sony CDX-GT100 with a front panel AUX input. So all you would need is a 3.5mm male-male wire to hook up your mp3 player.
Avoid all FM transmitters such as iTrip as the sound quality is bad.

Have Fun.

MP3 is a recording format. Usually the music files on your PC are MP3 format. Older CD decks are unable to play MP3 CDs, but yours can.

SO u can download music from your PC and burn into CD, and MP3 format means you can have tons of songs in 1 CD.

If you want to use your iPod, you can get an adaptor using cable and connect into the rear inputs of your deck.

OK WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO IS PULL THE RADIO out
the old 2004 Hyundai was made my alpine most of this radios have CD changer plugs alpine makes a interface that if you don't have a CD changer you can plug in a auxiliary cable to input any from any source to our surprise when we pull the radio there was a label with instructions for every single cable on the radio

do a search on the Internet for oem auxiliary interface or just pull the radio out and find out who makes the radio
good luck
