Some dogs will chase anything. This is called a prey drive in the working dog world. Dogs instinctively will chase anything that runs from them. Some take the chase up to the next step by catching and sometimes killing their quarry. Most, however find the chase satisfying enough and move on to other things.
I hope the roaches your dog is chasing are outside. If not, and these are in your house, stop laughing at your "crazy dog" and call the exterminator.

Dogs are instinctive to chase. What they chase, why and or why not is up to alot of things.
P.S. Get rid of the roaches, but dont make the dog sick (or kill it) in doing so.

Get rid of them roaches!!!
My dog likes to try to eat any insect he sees out in the yard. You should see him with the fire ants!! He eats them while they are still alive. He isnt the smartest dog, having the bugs running up and down his tongue!
EWWW, that makes me sick to even think of it!
Maybe he should be on Fear Factor to make me some money!!!
