Can anyone suggest ideas for a small and light present to give to a friend about to leave for Kenya on a volunteer conservation project for three months. Any anecdotal books, travel gadgets etc?

Thanks.

I think a Swiss Army knife is always good to have when going travelling and it is pretty/memorable and practical!! Now they do some very funky ones where you even have a lamp on it and other stuffs...etc.
If you want to make a practical gift you could actually prepare a kit with the knife, mosquito repellent, sun block and first aid kit!

maybe a dictionary that translates English to whatever they speak in Kenya...or a cell phone that they can activate there to call home and stuff...
or hey i have an idea, buy the plane ticket???
^^I'd love that as a gift (as much as I hate flying)
