The most common time frame for what is referred to as the Dark Ages or Middle Ages is approximately 500 -1500 C.E. During this period, something bordering on miraculous happened. Habeas Corpus - a writ that requires a person detained by the authorities to be brought before a court of law so that the legality of the detention may be examined, was enshrined in law. This was a monumental step forward in common law and perdates the Magna Carta of 1215.

This right came crashing down at the hands of George W. Bush. Those suspected of terrorist acts can now be held indefinitely without charge and without access to Habeas Corpus.

My question to you is, does this support Christian doctrine? Is this something that Jesus would do? And concerning the times we live in,

Do you feel safer? What about the impact on Americans living abroad? What about a soldier's right to Habeas Corpus under the Geneva Conventions?

Are we not all marching backwards to the year 500?

sunestaur... - the whole point of creating the Geneva Conventions was for the protecting of POWs. If a government refuses to do so, they can be charged with crimes against humanity.

topher - are you saying that the U.S. government should reach down to the level of the terrorists? What message does that give the world let alone the citizens of America? Does this not stomp all over your own ideals and values as a nation? If you do not treat everyone equally under the rule of law then you are no better than the people you are fighting against.

You are referring to prisoners of war who have no such rights. They are not in the uniformed forces of any country, so the Geneva Convention does not apply. Americans, those of other moslem sects, and anyone who does not support their acts of terrorism, when captured by their supporters are tortured and killed.

Which would you prefer???

No matter what you claim, America treats them MUCH BETTER than their forces treat prisoners.

Solve the problem. Every time an American soldier is killed in Iraq, execute a randomly selected prisoner at Gitmo. What do you think? We could close the place in a few weeks. If their supporters don't want them killed, they can stop their ILLEGAL attacks.

Christianity was able to produce a Hitler despite the Habeas Corpus. Until Christians start practicing what they preach about love and respect for *others* we are certainly headed backwards to medieval times! Istead of preaching about others' "salvation," they should try doing something about their existence! Darfur would be a great starting point.

these people that we are fighting do not recognize the Geneva Convention rules of engagement, prisioners or any other guidelines set forth by that convention. Now I ask you - how would you deal with these people?

Welcome to Fundamentalist Christian America. If you continue to vote in mostly fundies, that's the kind of government you are going to get. We warned you, but did you listen? Nooooooooo. You had to vote against anyone who might actually have a sex life. And now you are paying the price. Drugs are rampant, pedophiles are in yourgovernment, and all your government cares about is torturing kidnapped prisoners from Iraq.

They used herbs and plants as medicine for their diseases. We do the same today but understand the chemical composition of the herbs. Willow bark tea has become aspirin. Ginger was used for nausea.
