When Republican Congressman Mark Foley's attorney says he was molested by a clergyman as a youth, is it now ok that he was chatting up teenage boys on tax-payers' dime?

Whether or not this story is true, is the religious right gonna legitimize this latest Republican scandal so he can continue to receive retirement funds from tax-payers?

When are conservatives gonna take ownership of their own vices and not blame someone else for how their abuse of power?

Makes me ill.

You cannot justify your actions as an adult by something that happened to you as a child.

I was beaten as a child; I *do not* hit my kids. And my own abuse would not pardon me if I did.

We are responsible for our own actions -- if a person has issues they need help, sympathy and support, but it is *not* carte blanc to abuse others.

Well, you know, they have his lawyer all over the place telling everybody that he was molested, but that he still takes total responsibility for his actions - which sort of begs the question, why tell us about it then? Just sharing? It's also pretty amusing the way he insists that Foley is NOT a pedophile just because he never actually got any of the pages in the sack.

In answer to the question, I don't think "medicalizing" your perversions will help with the conservative christians. Finding Jesus seems to work. That's why so many people find Jesus in prison!

Not all political parties are perfect. There are always going to be bad apples in the bunch. Mark Foley the pedophile and Bill Clinton the sex abuser (think back to Paula Jones and Gennifer Flowers) are the only guys I can think of right now.

It's very illogical to condemn the whole party for something only a few individuals have done.

You'd think he'd get more sympathy from the Liberals than from the Conservatives with that story, but I'm willing to bet each party will look after its own.

Very true. It seems that this was a last minute pity ploy in order to gain sympathy for a perverted act and justify his actions.

Call a spade a spade. No sympathy for the devil. You can legitimize sin. God have mercy on this country.

It does seem to be working so far for Foley. Suddenly he is the victim... You should look into it.

What we have is the knowledge that Republicans are gay and straight, they are good and bad, etc. Not their picture is it? They want us to think they are better than anyone else, but they are not. They use the toilet the same way we do.
