My sister is petitioning her husban to become a US legal resident, the papers have been in for about a year and still no residence card or anything. She just found out she is six weeks pregant and she has no insurance, no job, no nothing. Can she apply for medicaid or any other state help, without interuppting or damaging her husban's immigrantion papers? Any help/advice will help. Thank you.

If she is an american citizen there's no problem. It won't damage her petition. Take a look at the immigration website.

When she is asked to fill out her affidavit of support, she will probably need a co sponsor to help her out. She has to prove that her husband will not depend on the government for help.
I suggest that she see an immigration atty or better yet, have her call her Congressperson in her district. They hire people specifically for immigration help. They make phone calls on your behalf and help the process along its way. It wont speed it up, but they will make sure the process that your sister is entitled too gets done! Good luck!

I think it will damage her husband's chances. A friend of mine married a woman out of the country. The forms clearly stated that neither he or she would be on government assistance.

This is a question that better be asked now. And of the right people not this forum. This is like getting advice in a tavern. If people knew what they were talking about wouldn't be sitting in a tavern lol.

I think you people should stop always relying on some type of assisstance from the government - especially since you're husband isn't an American citizen. Benefits are for true American citizens.

I would suggest that if she must get medicaid, that she have someone else sponser her husband. Like maybe a parent of hers.
