Stop, you need to find something else to focus on. That is just uncalled for. Innocent young people lost their lives. Get over yourself and have some compassion.

Nope, not in the slightest. As far as I'm concerned, they more than pay their value in taxes by serving as an exemplary example of what Christianity should be -- loving, forgiving, and totally faithful in God, without stupidity.
Did you know it is tradition for 16 year olds of the Amish faith to be FORCED from their community to live at least one year in the outside world (often with non-amish family or those who went out and didn't return)? This is so that it is *THEIR* choice to pursue the life they find more truth in.
I was born and raised Roman Catholic, and still think it's the most logical conclusion if you accept the Bible (which I no longer do), but the Amish are the ones who show how the Bible and morality are to be lived.

No.
The 911 system is for everyone to use no matter what. Would it be right to deny a foreigner in our country the use of the 911 system and our emergency system because they've not paid taxes? And the good people of Lancaster County PA, would have come to the aid of anyone, especially the Amish.
The Amish don't use modern technology, but do have community phones, for emergencies. I think the murder of innocent children qualifies as an emergency!

I don't have anything against anyone using 911. I think you are using the same argument that other people use who keep accusing illegal immigrants of - that supposedly they don't pay taxes but they use modern services. Has it occurred to you that because the Amish aren't rushing around in cars or installing all manner of modern appliances or engaging in dangerous activities or extreme sports, that if they were to use 911 on an open or regular basis, their need of it is likely just a fraction of what the rest of us keep using it for?

check wikipedia??? Friend wikipedia is the most unreliable place you can get credible information. Anyone can post to wikipedia.... for your information.... If the Amish work outside their community and recieve a paycheck they most certainly DO pay income tax. However they recieve no federal aid... they dont get food stamps.... they dont get free lunches for their schools..... they dont even get funding for their schools..... they recieve no benifit from paying those taxes you seem to be so concerned with.
However.... a school teacher with lil girls lying dying in a schoolroom because of a madman.... and your only concern was for the cost of the 911...................
What a sad state of society when something like that can happen.... and someone worries about the cost of the 911.....
If that were your 6 year old daughter laying on the floor with a bullet in her head.... hmmm i wonder.... if you would allow that Amish teacher.... to try to help her??

I was unaware that Amish citizens do not pay taxes, are you certain of this?
I find nothing hypocritical in trying to preserve the lives of children being harmed.
Amish people do use the resources available to them in time of great need. But they choose not to have these things be part and parcel of their every day life.
edit: "Amish people who are self-employed are not obliged to pay Social Security tax, but they do still pay all other taxes, including property, income, and sales tax. If an Amish person decides to work outside of the community, he or she must also pay Social Security tax like any other American. "

The Amish have taken to having a community phone for ultra emergencies.
I guess they have liberalized a little.
I also understand they are now using nails to building things.
As for taxes, if you go into the woods of Alaska, grow your own food, shoot your own meat, you don't have to pay taxes!
Indians, with their Casinos, aren't paying taxes either!
And I'm sure the Amish would probably lavish food and other things on any fireman or EMT who came to their asstance. If not, I'd be shocked at them!

No, and they do pay some taxes and the taxes they don't pay is because the government exempt them from those taxes. shame on you for asking about money in a time like this, you should be wondering how many people are planing this very thing right now,
And they can use our system anytime they need it, by God they are Americans

She didn't. She ran to the nearest house and had the residents call 911. And it appears that you're unaware of this, but ambulances DO CHARGE. This is not a free, tax-paid service. Depending upon the extent of services, the fee is about $400. per transport. Airlifts are also not paid by tax dollars, and cost about $6,000. each, plus a per mile charge.
What a terrible pseudo-question. You should be ashamed.
However, I still wish you peace.

I don't quite agree with it myself, but how about
1 Corinthians 7:29-31....with the emphasis on 31.
It would seem like a good twist.
