Bothering to go to a church or mosque is not just to pray. Jesus said " do not forsake the gathering of yourselves" which means if two or more of you believe and gather somewhere to worship God, then that is "having church", but it does not matter whether it is a church per say or your house. Churches are cool to go to, there is music and you can make new friends. Mosques are cool too, there is carpet everywhere, is smells of incense, the worshiping is done in singing the word of God and people are nice. Better to go to a church or mosque than to a mall as far as I'm concerned, no fighting for parking, no rude people to insult you when you make a human error and best of all, it's free!!! LOL

That exactly was one of the arguments Martin Luther made against the Roman Catholic Church, which led to Reformation and Protestantism.

Of course, it can be still argued over 4 centuries later, but it really depends on individual church's/religion's interpretation.

Personally, I think people go to churches/mosques/synagogues because they were trained that way and also perhaps physically being in a place of worship helps them to concentrate.

The purpose of going to a church or mosque is that it is a gathering place for believers to worship God together as a community. It is a place where the community can go for support and to support each other, to have their needs made known and their needs met. It is where we can come together and be not only one with God, but one with each other.

Church is not a necessity to be saved. God is everywhere so you can worship where ever you are. We can't confine church to 4 walls either. I think it helps going to church so you can be in fellowship with other believers and all be praying for one another. And theres strength in numbers

You just thought of that? Most people know about the many religious people who simply remain independent.

"This only One and very Self is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. This also every Christian acknowledges from his doctrine and every gentile from his religion. In consequence, wherever he is, a man thinks that God is there and that he prays to God at hand; thinking and praying so, men cannot but think that God is everywhere, that is, omnipresent [in all places at all times]; likewise omniscient [all knowing] and omnipotent [all powerful]. Everyone praying to God, therefore, implores Him from the heart to lead him because He can lead him; thus he acknowledges the divine omnipresence, omniscience and omnipotence, doing so in turning his face to the Lord; thereupon the truth flows in from the Lord" (Divine Providence n. 157).

That is the argument of all mystics. Why going there is god is everywhere? But can you feel the presence of god wherever you go and do? For that you need a lot of training, silence, obedience... let go. And that you can easily find between four walls, in community. It's up to you to choose you to attain comfort, and peace.

The very same question I asked myself before I decided I could be just as happy praying my home and studying the bible for myself. However, many people feel the desire to have a "family" of like thinkers to belong to. I think it has something to do with having someone to talk to about the message you heard and having things for the children to do and such. I usually get stuff off the internet for my kids to do and we talk about the bible and different stories that go along with the art I pull down.

Because Jesus said to gather together with other believers in fellowship. The word church doesn't just mean gathering in a catheadral, you can have church in someone's house too. There's no need to be legalistic, God is just as likely to be present in a small church at someones house as He is in a large building. ^.^

The real reason for going to church is to obey this commandment from god which tells us not to forsake the gathering of ourselves.

This gathering is to encourage one another and to edify the word for strength in the Name of Jesus Christ.

There is also another passage that says.

"Where two or three are gathered together in my name I'm in the mist:" This means that all you need is two people to be gathered together reading or praying or fasting in the Name of Jesus from the heart and his presence is there as well.

I hope this helps Godbless:)

I look at churches as places where I can go to get closer to God, or whatever anyone wants to call It, away from distractions. It's the same reason I might go to the library to study, for example.
