I know what you are thinking, but my dog is alergic to fleas, flea powders, and the topical drops...she is itching so bad right now she is crying, so I used borax on the floors (she is not alergic to it) and want to know if i can use it on her too? I have heard of people using dawn dish soap or vinegar, what do you think? I need an immediate solution, not something that will take a day or 2!

OK, so I didn't use the borax...instead I washed her in dawn and took on the difficult task of picking every flea off her which took forever since she is a long-haired Peek. She is much more comfortable now and finally sleeping! We went all night with her crying! Those who must think I am a bad mom...this flea issue DID happen overnight and I was told it was becasue it has started to become cold out at night (I am in FL) the "sand fleas" are wanting to come in! So...I have poured Borax all over outside and am wondering if it rains, will my yard be filled with suds? LOL!

Thanks for the help!

Try a bath with Dawn, followed by a rinse of 1/2 cup of lemon juice in a gallon of warm water.Leave it on for 10 minutes, then rinse again.Capstar is very good and can be given every day,but it only kills adult fleas. You could use it in combination with Program, which is given orally, once a month and keeps new fleas from developing. For the itching, you should get her some antihistamines and /or a cortisone shot from your vet.Poor thing. If you can't get to a vet right away, you can give Benadryl;1 mg. per pound of body weight every 8-12 hours. You can also apply aloe vera gel topically to soothe her skin.

A pill called Capstar will kill all fleas on a dog within 24 hrs. You can get it from the vet or http://www.jefferspet.com
Some of the "natural" Yahoo groups recommend Diatomaceous Earth rubbed on to the coat of the dog. You have to be careful though so that neither you or the dog breath the powder.

No, no, no. Don't put it directly on your dog, She might try to lick it off and it would more than likely make her very ill.

Take her to the vet and I'm sure the vet can give you something that she won't be allergic to.
