Can't do it, except to reduce the size of the column so the text gets separated to 2 lines. It's better to use 2 cells anyway.

Well simple. I guess you want both date and 10/05/06 to appear in the same cell. After typing your word, right-click the cell -> Format cells... -> Alignement -> Text Alignement General and Bottom, Check Wrap text.

To do this select the cell that you want this to happen in. Then select Format|Cells from the drop down menus. Then select the alignment tab. Here check the wrap text box and click okay.

Changing the size of the cell will then wrap the text.

I know what you mean, I sometimes do this myself. The way to do it is by pressing ALT+ENTER following the "Date" prompt. This should insert a "hard" carriage return and move the cursor one line down within the same cell.
This works both in 'in-cell' editing as well as in the edit-area in the toolbar.

By simply highlighting the word in the cell, you can type another word replacing it.

Just type Date first, then press enter that should bring the cursor 1 line down..
