most of the new gatorade flavors and all of powerade and any other sweetened drinks have corn syrup in them (the old gatorade flavors list high fructose syrup but don't call it high fructose corn syrup, not sure if they are trying to hide that it's corn based or if it's just not corn based) and corn syrup is the bane of american health.... other than that, if you are working out they are a great source of sugar and salt that your body needs as it's working... but i would steer clear of them as a casual drink.

you shouldn't use it as a substitute for water but occasionally would be ok. It is high in sugar but has some good benefits for replacing electrolytes. I have heard that if you have a bad headache and you drink a Gatorade it will go away.

Of course you can! I just got my braces off but I used to drink gatorade and powerade ALL THE TIME! Nothing will happen if you do, except it has sugar so remember to brush your teeth really well!

drinks like gatorade are packed with carbs for energy and sodium for optimal nerve function.

sodium in our bodies is used as an electrolyte... basically sodium is used to "lubricate" nerve endings to transport electric signals. when you are playing sports, alot of sodium is excreted from the body via sweating. gatorade helps replenish the sodium and therfore restores the optimal level in your body to help your muscles function better

so in theory drinking gatorade when you are working out is good for you, but it is not nescessary for average day to day drinking

I have friends who are firefighters. They are instructed to drink 4 bottles of water to every bottle of gatorade. They say it has something to do with dehydration. Not sure exactly what it is.

To much Sports drinks are bad for you. Their are too many minerals and junk in them. And WAY to much sodium. A doctor told me if you drink a quart of any sports drink you should drink a quart of water with it. Also, one 12 oz of soda takes 48 0z of water to clear your body.

Only if you've been sweating heavily or working out really hard. They have electrolytes that will make your body recover from strenuous cardio, etc. If you drink these when they aren't necessary you're wasting your money.

no, way too much sugar unless you are an athlete burning some serious calories/electrolytes. You are much better off with water

They usually have a high amount of electrolytes. This is good when you are sick or after a hard workout.
