I think people are missing the point of the question. I think they are wondering if blood is a different color when oxygenated. The answer is yes. So what if they describe dark red, maroon, "bluish" etc. as purple. That's how you describe steak when you want it rare--purple in the middle. But steak isn't purple, it's red. It's just a way of describing something for emphasis. Basically this boils down to an interpretation of color.

Its not really purple. Its like a really dark blue-red colour. Its the oxygen in it that makes it red.

It's true but it's blue not purple. Blood only turns red when mixed with oxygen. That's why your veins are blue and not red.

It is not really purple, just a really dark red. Next time you have a blood test, ask them to show you.

the blood in your veins can take on a bluish purplish cast because it is returning to the heart and lungs and is low in oxygen, the blood in your arteries, having just left the heart and lungs is bright red because it has obtained oxygen from the lungs.

It's dark red when it contains oxygen, and light red when it doesn't. It's the heamaglobin, which carries oxygen that gives it the dark red colour.

Blood is red all the time. It becomes a brighter red when oxygenated.
