Just curious as to how many other mothers or fathers had to rein in their children this morning with a spanking?

Not today. My kids have been pretty good these past few days. My 4 y/o needed a spanking the other day (almost a week ago now) for repeatedly being mean to her little brother. Did it change her course? Heck yeah it did! Did talking to her work? Nope. Time out? Nope. We gave her a firm tap on the butt and she hasn't bothered him since!

My kids don't need spankings often. I think my oldest was spanked maybe 3 times in his life, and he's a very good kid. My 4 y/o has had a few more, but she has been more of the one to push the limits (like putting things in electrical outlets and such). My youngest hasn't had but one.

Sometimes that's what it takes!

I believe spankings are paramount "when needed" and must be used when all else fails OR the child did something life threatening or injurious to someone else.

Spanking children for everything and anything is a big no-no. A child must learn to be self controlled and has to learn that there is a price to pay for every action we take in life. There are rewards for good behavior - and often times the good behavior is a reward in itself - then there is intolerable behavior in society.

You did not give a reason for your spanking your child so I am not prejudging here. I just hope you do not punish the child with a spanking as an answer all. Spank, yes! But in proper context.

A child who acts out of control and does not get a spanking usually ends up behind bars later in life.

Sadly some kids regardless of proper upbringing end up in deep trouble and of that, usually because of the ones they choose for friends or because snobs and bullies picking on them.

With each passing generation - parenting gets harder and more complex.

I have 3 children... and didn't need a spanking for any of them. I usually try not to use spanking. I find it more efficient to do something related to the crime they have committed...
Wouldn't turn off the TV.... doesn't get TV after school.
Wouldn't get dressed.... Picks out clothes after school when they want to be outside playing.
Wouldn't eat breakfest... well they are going to be hungry at school, I just let the teacher know ahead of time they made that choice.

Not a full out spanking, but I did spat my sons hand for taking a bottle of hot sauce and bashing the keyboard with it.

i assume you are refering to a child getting spanked - not your hubby - kids are tough and so are mornings - sometimes we all have a bad attitude when its early and we dont feel well. my children are hard to deal with sometimes in the morning and when i punish them and then they go to school and i go to work , i feel bad all day about it - disipline is not restricted to evening hours - u must show who is the adult. and if the spanking was for hubby - u go girl!!!!

I have never spanked. There are other ways to "rein in" your children. Believe me, I am not a bleeding heart. My kids are well behaved because they have clear rules and consequences. Beating is not required. It just means you have lost control.

I did - and my girlfriend said she was very sorry and promised not to be naughty again for at least five minutes. She broke her promise, though....
