A nervous breakdown is an inexorable feeling that your life, your sense of self, everything around you has fallen apart and is in a deep black abyss. You can't eat, you cannot sleep or you sleep too much, uncontrollable crying, not functioning just an indescribable emptiness. No happiness, no joy, just misery. It's all consuming and deeply overwhelming. A nervous breakdown is the mind's way of shutting down so that no other stressors can affect you. I can liken it to clinical depression.

if you are having panic attacks, that is one symptom of an impeding nervous breakdown.. a complete nervous breakdown is a loss of mental awareness of yourself and the world around you and usually requires therapy to rebuild after wards.

You can only be diagnosed by a psychiatrist. Go make an appointment with one.

A "nervous breakdown" is a misnomer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nervous_breakdown

..they come in all shapes and sizes.. best signs are shouting and screaming.. recovery is sitting in a dark room for a long time to calm down and get your senses back!
