Most inmates get "saved" after they are incarcerated. Religion is accepted more easily by people in tough situations. Being in prison is not exactly fun. In particular, an individual who is facing the rest of his life behind bars (or the death penalty,) often turns to religion to give him hope for a future after jail, because for him there will be no living future after jail.

Are you saying that following Jesus makes people want to commit crime?

Now that is a stretch.

Where exactly did Jesus teach that crime of any kind is good.

Many repent while in prison, though.

And there are Christians that still commit crimes, we are not all always perfect.

But insinuating that following Jesus leads you to prison is odd.

Peace!

They broke the laws of society, and must pay for their crimes--regardless of their religious affiliation.

You can be repentant, but you still must do your time and make restitution for the crimes committed. If they've accepted Jesus, good for them, but Jesus would still tell them to take responsibility for what they've done.

Because, for whatever reason, there is a high correlation between religion and low socio-economic status. There is also a high correlation, for more obvious reasons, between criminal acts and low status. So, logically, there is a high correlation between religion and prison time.
