Honestly I think the guy is right to say that everybody has felt that at one time or another. Ive been out of school for a few years now but the way I see it is that the educational system has been changing to where the kids are pushed earlier and earlier for harder and harder stuff in attempt to 'keep up with the joneses' so to speak as in China, Russia, Germany and others who when exchange students come to the USA they laugh because the stuff we do here is so easy to them. Our school system sucks but the Dept of Education DOES NOTHING ABOUT IT! Its all about the money when youve got a govt job. Do your research you will see.

Because everytime they turn around, someone is implying that their entire life is dependant on their grades. High-schoolers hear that if they don't get straight A's, and 1600 on the SATs, they won't get into college, so they won't be able to get a job, so they will broke and live on welfare and die cold and alone. The worst part is, it's all so unnecessary. If so many students weren't taught that college is neccessary to get a good job, not as many would get degrees, and it wouldn't be neccessary to have a bachelors to work at McDonald's.

I think it's because we have such an emphasis on achievement in our society today. Parents used to want their kids to grow up to be GOOD people....now so many seem to want their kids to grow up to be IMPORTANT people. I think the pendulum is starting to swing back the other way, though. These things are always cyclical.

I don't think it's new, I think every student has felt that way at one time or another, throughout history (no pun intended.....) :)
