You should cook the meat, onions, carrots & any other veg (baked beans go well too!) in a pan on the stove, adding the gravy when they're completely cooked. Put the meat into an oven-proof dish, and make sure it's evenly covering the bottom of the dish. With the mashed potato, gently put spoonfulls on top of the meat mixture, until it's almost covered. Then using a fork, gently even and smooth the potato mounds until the meat is completely covered. Alternatively, use a piping bag to pipe the mash over the top (if you want it to look posh, although this rather defeats the idea of the dish!) Bake at about 180 c. for around 30 minutes, or until it's browned. As all the ingredients have been cooked through, you're just baking it to brown the potato, and bring the dish together. Hope this helps.

Absolute easiest way:
1 lb pkg frozen mixed vegetables, thawed or 2 #15 cans of mixed vegetables, drained
1 jar brown gravy
1 lb ground beef, browned and drained
Mix above together, dump in a casserole dish.
4 servings instant mashed potatoes, made according to directions
Top hamburger mix with the mashed potatoes, bake at 350 for 30 minutes, or until hot throughout. Sprinkle on some shredded cheddar for the last 10 minutes if you want.
You can add a couple of dashes of Worchestershire sauce to the gravy, if you want to jazz it up a little, or maybe a little bit of tomato paste (a TBSP or so). You can also add some diced onion to the ground beef as you brown it.

Fry off your minced meat and onions and add stock and cook for 30mins. While that is cooking boil up lots of potatoes and pre-heat your oven to gas mark 6, 400°F (200°C). Once these are both cooked, mash potatoes with butter and milk and put mince into dish with mashed potatoes layered on top. I usually add some grated cheese to give a golden crusty topping. Cook for 25 mins in oven until browned and yummy.

I have my own version of shepherds pie. put a layer of mashed potatoes, then layer of hamburger, then layer of corn and start all over again and make second layer. I like cheese but my husband does not so you can use it or leave it off. it is delicious no matter what you add. you can also cover it with mushroom soup before you put the cheese on it. put in oven until heated. since all your layers are cooked it only takes a few min to heat or melt the cheese.

Drain potatoes, reserving liquid. Mash cooked potatoes with hot water, salt, and onion powder.
Add additional liquid if desired. Set aside. Combine beans, corn, and peas in a 9 inch pie pan. In a separate bowl, whisk together peanut butter and water, until smooth. I just take a bag of frozen corn and pour it into a baking dish, top with cooked seasoned ground beef and top with garlic flavored mashed potatoes, then add a layer of shredded cheddar cheese.Take a spatula and make peaks on the potatoes by sitting spatula down and lifting the potatoes to form peaks, then cover with cheddar cheese, the peaks will cook a little crispier.

Make all the mince and then mash the potatoes. Lay the mince in the pot and using a large knife spread the mash over the top. Job done.
