My hair looked great in the summer when it got lightened by the sun, but now I've had it cut, it's pretty much back to dull mid brown.
I've got short hair, so paying £80 in london to have it done (which will probably only last till my next cut) is not an option!!

I'm quite nifty with hair dye, but how can recreate my sun lightened hair at home?

Can you help?

You can get a product called Sun In from Boots, its a spray on thing, and you either have to sit in the sun (or more realistically) blast a really hot hairdryer on your hair. It gives a really good sun kissed look, and if you get the Super one, can make your hair quite a lot lighter.

Ive used Sun In loads over many years, and my hair is in very good condition, not damaged at all!

Try using Loreal's Colour Experte hair dye. It comes in a variety of colors and it has the highlights you put in after to give you a more natural look. Try it in a medium golden brown and apply the highlights to where you would have them from the sun.

If you've never used that stuff before the applicator brush for the highlights looks like a mascara brush, so put some on the bristles and wipe any excess off and apply thin streaks to your hair for the most natural look.

Sun In - use a hair dryer to lighten hair. Be careful though and use lightly to start with. Get intensive conditioner too as it can dry out hair

DON'T USE SUN-IN !!!! It makes your hair go orange!
Most chemists or supermarkets sell hair dye that now comes with a wand thing that gives you highlights to blend with your hair colour.

Add chamomile to your shampoo or rinse daily with chamomile tea. You can also use lemon but it is harder on the hair. Sun in works too, but again it is hard on the hair.

you can try and use natural remedies so everytime you go out and there is a little sun your hair will turn lighter even if its not summer.
you can get some more information on how to do it here:

You can use SunIn or even peroxide but they are both very drying to your hair... Make sure you use a good conditioner.
