Because God choose to humble himself and become truly one of us.
God made himself fully human so that no one could accuse God of not knowing what it is like to suffer, to feel hunger, to feel cold or weakness, to be helpless, or follow his own commands.
---------------------------------
For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
~Hebrews 2:17-18 (NIV)
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
~Hebrews 4:14 -16 (NIV)

Paul explains all that in one of his letters. Look up Phillipians 2"5-11 some time.
It says to while Jesus was equal with God, He decided that equality was not something to retain. Rather He laid it aside for a time and became a servant, being made into a human being,
While in that form He was obedient to God, even to the point of dying on the cross. Because of that, God raised Him up and has given a position about everyone else, that everyone in earth, in heaven, and under the earth should bow and proclaim Him Lord.
When Jesus came to earth, it was a human being. He was just as human as you or I. He had to sleep, eat, etc. But within his human body dwelled the divine Spirit of God Himself. That is the reason (as even Muhammed said) that Jesus was virgin born. Mary supplied the physical and God the spiritual to conceive Him.
As for the cross, He choose to go there. It was His decision. He told his disciple just hours before his arrest, "No man takes my life from me. I freely lay it down." The death on the cross was the whole reason Jesus came.
Because sin came into the world by the disobedience of a human (Adam), so redemption had to come through the obedience of a human being (Jesus). Because of the divine Spirit within Jesus, He was able to live a perfect life. There was no sin within Him.
Since he had no sin to have to die for, He could give His life for others. That was His plan and why He choose to die. But more that than, He also rose again. That is the "proof" that He is Almighty.
Because of His resurrection, He is able to impart a new, clean, spirit into the hearts of anyone else who wants it. All they need do is believe He has raised from the dead and give him the Lordship of their life.

You obviously don't understand Body, Soul, and Spirit. The person invide was Jesus and he was born in the body by his human mother.
He died and lived voluntarily to identify with us and our situation here on earth because he loves us and wants us to know that. He submitted to the death on the cross for us..
For almighty God to not take vengance on us all is an act of mercy and kindness and actually shows strength when he could wipe us off of the map..
There were very few of the prophets that were not killed for giving God's message..

One: Jesus is not/was not God. He is widely accepted as having been the Son of God (and that depends on who you ask)
Two: If you accept the Bible as truth, Jesus was sent to Earth to suffer and die for the sins of all humankind. He died at the hands of "some weak human beings" because that was His divine purpose. It is why He was sent here to begin with.
Three: He had to eat and drink like everyone else because He was the divine given mortal form.
If you're going to criticize the book, at least have the decency to read it first!

To understand the belief in total, you'll need more that what y!answers is going to give you. But it's my understanding of the tale that the Christian god's "son" came to earth specifically to suffer as a man, and to die in a sacrificial way, so that mankind would be given a kinder, gentler way into salvation.
Consider researching the doctrines and texts relating to this particular faith.

He was God, but He was man also.
Jesus came to live among us, to show us how to live a perfect life, to become our mediator to God, because He has experienced what it is to live like a human. And Jesus became our savior, so that we also can have a relation with the Father, and live with Him forever.

Jesus was a Prophet of Allah. The trinity has its roots in greek and roman methology that heavily influenced the early church. the earliest christians were actually practising jews and they believed that Jesus was a Prophet.
Todays christians are actually Paulians, and followers of Paul, who is the corrupter of Jesus's message. This was the message of all the Prophets, worship Allah alone, and do not associate partners with him.

He was 100% man and 100% God, he had to come to be one of us, to bring the new Covenant to all people.
Why would you follow a prophet that did not obey his own rules? Sounds kinda fake to me.
Peace!

Jesus was not almighty. According to the bible, Jesus was the son of God, the almighty. Jesus did, according to historical evidence, walk this earth.
