No. Several things affect our sense of smell - although we have roughly the same number of odour receptors each, some of us have a more acute sense of smell than others.Even though are sense of smell is less acute than a dog's, we can recognise up to 10,000 different odours
Colds, your sex, time of the month (ladies) are just a few of the factors that affect your sense of smell.
Air is funneled up your nose past olfactory receptor cells which then transmit the information along nerve cells to the brain via the olfactory bulb - part of the brain which protrudes into the top of the nasal cavity .
Scientist are very interested in olfactory nerves as they replace themselves and repair themselves in a unique way in the body. If they can find out how they do it, then there is hope for people with paralysed by nerve damage.
