History is good for shaping your knowledge of others as well as yourself. If you don't know where someone has been how can you understand them now?

The world is rich with history, and I love most of it. Once you get to travel somewhere outside the USA, you might get "the trigger".

The trigger is when you find yourself engrossed in a culture or people. You want to know more. Once you come back to the USA you find yourself saying "Hey, I've been there, and KNOW that culture", from then on it's all about learning, you can't get enough :)

Well - Napoleon tried to get rid of history education so know one would think there was any other way to do things but the way he did them. That is a similar idea of most fascists - Hitler and his goons were the same way except for their re-writing if history of course.

Maybe it won't be used in the way that you mean, but it's important to know where we have come from and not be ignorant of important events in history just because they happened before we were born.

history may seem pointless, but it does teach us somethings. we learn from our mistakes, but how can we as a nation remember without history. so study, learn, and don't make the same mistakes twice.

Well how do you define yourself? Where are you from? Who are your old great parent? If you can answer those questions, then you know the use of history. Remind you and me of great was so we can learn from it.

You will use it in life! Especially if you want to be able to have intelligent conversations with people.

Seriously, I work with a lot of people involved in military and government service, as well as associations, and my knowledge of history helps us have things to talk about to bond and strengthen our business relationships.

Also, if you like to read books, frequently there are references to historical events and leaders, and it helps to know about those things to understand current events too.

People who don't know history keep making the same stupid mistakes over and over... which is why Americans get into so much trouble.
