More specifically what does it mean to you to take up your cross? What is your cross? Is it related to the scripture that says unless a seed fall to the ground and die it will bear no fruit?

This is manifest in a hundred different ways throughout the day. What it boils down to is the continuing practice of setting aside my own emotional urges or reactions to any given situation in favor of behaving in such a way as to follow a proven spiritual principal. This involves an active choice of the will.

For example, I chose to get up this morning instead of sleeping in. I may choose to be more courteous in traffic on my morning commute and not be rude to the person who cut me off. The list goes on. Many small daily choices to crucify me so that Christ may live in me.

Matthew 10:39
Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

"take up the cross" means to look to the cross as your source of victory because of what happened at the cross. If you don't have a proper understanding of His death and what that afford you, then you won't be able to properly place faith in Him. Some people think that "your cross" is the burdens you have to bear, but it's not. It's looking to the cross daily, and placing your faith in that finished work.

My cross in this life is being different than many and therefore alone in some ways, living with dialysis and diabetes, and striving to love others no matter what they do or say. Not a heavy one but I am sometimes weak and complaining. Thanks for reminding me it is an honor to bear and I should be greatful it is not as difficult as somes.

well we materialistic Americans dont believe in the old or new testament anymore

we like to overlook the blessed are the poor and humble parts and go with

Health/Wealth doctrines like "my god has cows on a thousand hills" or "believe and recieve"

taking up my cross? sounds pretty ascetic don't you think?

Paul and his Catholic converts wrote about this to try and subdue mother nature or our inherant humanity as if we were cursed and born wrong

I say born right first time,

put down your religion and cross and begin to walk own life without others putting crosses and chains on you and benefiting from your loyalty while they use that trust to abuse you
