We are plainly warned not to love the world or the things that are in the world, for the simple reason that love for the world is not compatible with love for the Father. All that the world has to offer may be described as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. The lust of the flesh refers to such sensual bodily appetites as proceed from within our evil nature. The lust of the eyes applies to such evil desires as may arise from what we see. The pride of life is an unholy ambition for self-display and self-glory. These three elements of worldliness are illustrated in the sin of Eve. The tree was good for food; that is the lust of the flesh. The tree was pleasant to the eyes; that is the lust of the eyes. It was a tree to be desired to make one wise; this describes the pride of life.
As the devil is opposed to Christ, and the flesh is hostile to the Spirit, so the world is antagonistic to the Father. Appetite, avarice, and ambition are not of the Father, but of the world. That is, they do not proceed from the Father, but find their source in the world. Worldliness is the love for passing things. The human heart can never find satisfaction with things.

This is refering to putting things above God. 1 John 2:16-17 explains... "For everything in the world---the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes, and the boasting of what he has and does--- comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires will all pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever."

Love one another. Love your neighbor as yourself. Love your spouse as Christ loved the church. That's a lot.
Do not, however, love the big money, big houses, fancy cars, latest electronic gizmos, Hollywood crazes, power, prestige...
Be in the world but not of it. Go to work, vote, go to PTA, cut the grass, take out the garbage....leave the seat down.
Our true home, however, is in heaven.
For all that [is] in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

It means don't love or be so caught up in the world that you forget to put God first in your life. There is a struggle in ones life to keep God first and not be so worldly minded that you are constantly thinking of pleasure or other things. The bible says, in the last days people will be lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God.

Sounds more like the glamourous world. Like Las Vegas. Like dying to to to Rome just to see the sites.
That's in interesting citation, however, for was was wondering about Christians polluting the air and environment. With this citiation it seems we have a Biblical right not to care, in fact orders not to overly care.

The Bible shows that God loved the world of mankind simply as humans, people in an imperfect dying state who were in desperate need of help, whether they appreciated it or not.(John3:16).But he did not love the ungodly qualities they had and that manifested themselves in wrong desires. And he did not love the ungodly deeds they commited. The apostle John warned against loving the wrong desires and deeds of the world of mankind stating:"Because everything in the world - the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the showy display of ones means of life-does not originate with the Father, but originates with the world.Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever - John2:15-17
Those desires of the eyes and of the flesh and the desire for personal exaltation did 'orginate with the world'-they were what developed in mankinds first parents and led them into a course of rebellion.(Gen.3:1-6,17)Wrong desire caused them to seek independence from God so that they could follow selfish interests out of harmony with his will.Following these selfish desires led to breaking God's laws.
Consider what you see around you in our time.Do not most of the people today build their lives around the desires of the flesh and the eyes and the "showy display of ones means of life"?Is it not these things that shape the hopes and interests of the great mass of mankind, governing the way they act and their dealings with one another?Yes,and this has led to them breaking God's laws.Because of this, the history of mankind is one long record of disunity and war,of immorality and crime,of commercial greed and oppression,of proud ambition and striving for fame and power.
We can see, then, between loving the world as God did and loving its wrong desires and practices, which the apostle condemns.God's love for the world of mankind was expressed for the very purpose of opening the way for them to become free from those sinful desires and their bad results, including death itself. He expressed that love at great cost to himself, giving his own Son as a sacrifice to ransom mankind. But for anyone who rejects that sacrifice and willfully continues in disobedience, the Bible says that "the wrath of God remains upon him"-John3:16,36;Rom.5:6-8

the world we live in is only temporary. We will not be here for etirnity. Whereas we will be in heaven (well i no i will) for etirnity.
If we love this world it is only materials that we love.
