It is Ramadan and he should be fasting all day long, The nicest thing that you can do for him is to have a nice meal for him every evening when it is time to break his fast and to not eat or drink anything in front of him during the day as this will make the fast harder for him. Gifts can be given at the end of Ramadan for Eid and this is usually some new clothes. Buy him nice shirt or something like this. Also you could use this as an opportunity to ask him a few questions about Islam and get to know a little more about his religion. This might be the most appreciated of all.

Currently Muslims are celebrating the month of ramadan in which we fast from dawn until dusk. At the end of ramadan, we have Eid-ul-fitr (similar to xmas) in which we exchange gifts. The gift could be anything that he likes/wants. I do not know of a tradition in which you give gifts when someone passes away..this is the first I've heard of it.

This is the month of Ramadan and we just finished 10th fast.

Gift-giving is usually reserved for the END of the mont (called Eid). So don't buy him anything.

Maybe take him to a nice seafood place or something to open fast at. Or whatever, just be your normal self. Having a loving family is the best gift during Ramadan!
