Your kitty was just going in to heat. There were no outward signs YET. the only way he knew was that after he got inside of her the blood vessels were swollen at the time of surgery sometimes making it a little bit more time consuming. Nothing to worry about now cause you wont be annoyed by a heat. that's a good thing believe me.

You must have had one subtle cat. Or she was just starting the heat. The easiest symptom is the calling. I'm in the mooooooood for looooooooove. All day and all night. Then every intact tomcat in the neighborhood shows up in response to some chemical signal you can't detect but they sure can. They want in, your loving little kitten wants out and will tear through your arm to get out.
Then your neighbors complain that the tomcats are stinking up the place. Then the cat gets out and gives the children of the neighbor hood a free sex ed lesson with the biggest, scruffiest tomcat of the gang.
At least that's how it was for our first cat when we did not know much about cats.
You did the right thing by getting her spayed.
Now you know why I am so insistent about fixing animals.

When a vet is in surgery, they can often tell a cat is coming into heat before they show any signs outwardly. This is because the arteries and veins to the uterus enlarge and fill with blood, and the uterine tissue becomes 'softer'- it's getting ready for heat & kittens.
You might have noticed small signs, like your cat was extra affectionate, rubbing up on your legs- when they fully come into heat it's hard to miss- they 'call' (meow loudly and make you crazy) and 'flag' ( position themselves for a male).
Some cats have 'silent heats' though- where you will see no outward signs. It's uncommon but it does happen.

Most likely your vet spotted the internal changes in surgury.

Oh, geesh! You should have seen my youngest kitty when she'd come in heat. There was NO DOUBT! Of course, I have a neutered male that would let me know, too. She'd back up to him with her tale aside, knead at the ground with her front paws (treading), and meow these tortured sounding almost howling meows, and follow the male cat around all over the house. She even started rubbing up on my husband and backing up to him! It was funny at first, but hubby became annoyed with it about the 3rd heat. We had her spayed not to prevent pregnancy (all my kitties are house cats and fixed), but to keep her from annoying everyone!!!

Some females are subtle about their heats. Sometimes it's very hard to tell, especially if no other cats are around.

Well if she is spayed now, being in heat won't matter. But here are some signs...
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Varies
Here's How:
Immediately preceding oestrus, your female cat may become unusually affection, and rub her hind quarters against furniture, other cats, and/or her favorite human.
The Queen (name for female cats of breeding age) will vocalize loudly. This "calling" may go on for several days, unless she mates.
She will assume a mating position: head down, forelegs bent, rear quarters raised to expose the perineum ( this raised posture is called lordosis), with the tail raised and held to the side of the body. Her rear legs will tread rhythmically, as if walking in place.
Queenie may also spray vertical surfaces with a strongly scented fluid. She will accomplish this by backing up to the surface and raising her tail high. The tail may quiver, and she may perfom the rhythmic treading described in step four.

When my cat used to go in heat she would always be at the door crying to go out..At certain times she would be rolling all over the floor, rubbing herself against things and licking herself constantly between her legs,She would seem aggitated if I wouldnt allow her outside and then she'd make these really weird loud meowing noises.A cat in heat only wants one thing-To reproduce. They will stop when either they go out of heat or get pregnant.

A cat in heat is very vocal, calling and calling for a male cat. She will roll and roll on the ground and constantly rub against furniture or your leg. She will assume a breeding posture with her head and front legs near the ground and the rump area held high. She will become very affectionate. You may notice her urinating frequently

well she may have just started to begin her cycle and was not showing any signs yet usually they roll around on the floor, rub everything in sight and yowl and holler continuously...this happened to me once when i took my kitten to be spayed and i was under the impression the heat was over because she wasnt displaying any signs but she was still in heat and they charged me more because of it

Annoying, constant loud meowing was my clue. I didn't know why, either.
