a cat could be anything within that's species' line i.e. lion,tiger,panther etc. whereas a pussycat refers to a domesticated feline(lives in a home)

One wil scratch you eyes out and the other you can play with and have woop with, no I think they sound the same...nothing really you have to play with both to have fun.
