If you are referring to a US visa, your authorization to work is dependant upon what type of visa you have and how long you have been in the program. You should coordinate any employment with your Designated School Official (DSO) to ensure that you remain in status. Your best information, tailored to your situation, will be from your school, not on Yahoo.

I work for the UK immigration system. Anyone who has a student visa that says "Limited Leave to reamin in the UK" is automatically entitled to work in the UK for 20 hours. Your employer should know this and shouldn't require a letter of proof. If you obtained this visa as a renewal of your student visa, then then Home Office would have also sent you a letter stating that you can work for 20 hours together with your passport. If you have just come to the UK on a student VISA for the first time, then you would not have recieved this letter. But like I said before, if you have a Student Visa that was obtained for this purpose and was issued for more than 6 months at the time of issue, then your employer shouldn't be asking you for proof as he/she should know the law.

Anyway goodluck.

You are allowed to work for 20 hrs ON-campus (atleast in 1st year) depending upon university you are in.

You can get the information / details regarding it from International Student Service (ISS) at your university. Contact them and ask them to provide your employer a proof that you can work upto 20 hrs.

I went to school in the US and they had this stupid rule too... 20 hours of on campus employment only for the 8 month school year and for the 4 months over the summer, you can work off campus but only in a field directly related to your degree and only as an intern.

At my college, I had to go to my international student services office and request a work authorization permit. After you have this (it is a letter saying your visa is current and you are enrolled and that they endorse your application for employment certification) I then had to take this to the nearest Social Security Office (in my case, an hour's drive away) to apply for a social security number. The card arrives in the mail in about 10 days and clearly says "Not valid for work without DHS Authorization" on it (DHS = Department of Homeland Security)

Once you have all that, then you can go back to whatever employer you might have had lined up before you scared them away from you with all this bureaucratic bullshit and ask them to sign and date their line on your work authorization permit which you then take back to your school's international student office for safekeeping and records.

Better to get it from your current school, ask them to issue a letter stating that you're allowed to work for 20 hours.

Normally, the employers wouldn't ask for that.
