I really want to lose some weight this year and I was thinking about Jenny Criag, however would have to pick up another job in order to afford it. I am willing to work a little harder if it means that I will actually like the program. However, if it is a lot of money for something I can do myself, than I'd rather know now and after I spend to money.

Here is a web site that has the costs per week of different plans:
http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/invest/forbes/P114424.asp

I have been using Stack Body Tune Up since July, 2006 and I have lost 32 pounds. Its average cost is about $29 per week compared to the $137.65 per week that the article talks about.

If I can be of further assistance, let me know.

My wife and I are currently in our 4th week on Jenny Craig. Here's what you can expect. I've lost 10 lbs after 3 weeks and the wife has lost 5.5 lbs. After about 3 weeks, I've adapted so I'm not hungry all the time.

First, you have to join as a member. There are varying levels, but right now they are offering a 20 lbs for $20 membership. They will try and get you to join the lifetime plan for $400, but don't do it unless you are damn sure you want to be a member for life.

Second, the plan essentially revolves around you eating their food. A weeks worth of meals will cost you around $100 to $115, depending on what you order and if you get any extras, like their salad dressings or vitamins.

Third, you are expected to supplement their food with fruits, vegetables, and dairy that you buy yourself.

The idea is that you pop their food in the microwave, and quickly grab a piece of fruit or cheese or some quickly cooked veggies and have a meal. You are also supposed to have 3 snacks throughout the day, usually fruit and maybe some dairy, but one is a Jenny snack, which could be something sweet or something like cheetos or other salty snack, not that any of their food is really salty.

The food itself tastes comparable to frozen foods you'd buy in the supermarket like Lean Cuisines, etc. They initially start you off with a menu to follow for the week. For breakfast, eat their French Toast, an orange and a cup of nonfat milk. For first snack, an apple. Lunch might be a Pesto Pizza + salad + low cal dressing. Etc.

Once a week, you meet privately with your counselor and weigh in. You discuss the week, what went right, problem areas, etc. They'll make recommendations and then you pick your next week's worth of food and buy it.

I think the plan is a good one for people with little time to cook. If you don't like counting calories, their preplanned menus are nice to go by. You don't have to follow it verbatim, but make like-kind substitutions. A nonfat yogurt instead of nonfat milk, or a grapefruit instead of an orange, etc.

Overall, I'm glad I tried it. I'm not sure if I'll continue Jenny Craig after my 20 lbs are lost. I might just decide to go on my own now that I've got the program down.

When losing weight you have to be determined and work hard regardless of which "diet" you do. My mother for 2 years was on Jenny Craig. The only thing it did for her that she couldn't have done for herself was support from her peers. However, after 2 years and only losing 50 lbs she was quite dissappointed as her goal was to lose 120lbs. So she gave up and was dissapointed in herself. She missed the people she met but hated the food she was provided. After months of gaining her weight back she became fed up with herself and devoted herself to changing her lifestyle. She got a memebership to the local YMCA and started buying healthier foods. She changed her eating habits from 1 large meal a day to 3 solid meals (smaller porportions) and at least 2 healthy snacks throughout the day. She realized that it is better to always keep some food in your tummy rather than devour 1 large meal at dinner time. She began exercising everyday and eating right. Within weeks I noticed a big difference in her attitude. She was upbeat and positive about the route she was taking. Proudly I can say that 3 years later she has lost over 130lbs and has managed to maintain it for the past year and a half. She has not changed anything except exercising every other day instead of daily.
This woman is such an inspiration to me, with such strength and determination. My mother throughout my whole life has been "dieting". She has tried every diet pill, every Richard Simmons Gig, everything ever put on the market with no results other than failure. She absolutely refused to enjoy life throughout her younger years. She let her weight and herself hold her back. Now she is living her life to the fullest. Doing things I wouldn't consider. Simple things she does now, like getting her hair done, clothes shopping and vacationing were things she would have never done because she was so down on herself. To this day I am amazed with my mother, so proud of her and so thankful for her health. I watched the pain she endured being overweight and the pain she endured while losing weight. It was more painful for me to see how people hurt her, looked at her and treated her.
Just remember that you can do anything you set your mind to. Stay strong and God Bless!
