You did not mention his age, so I'll not bring that into account with my answer, even though it could have an effect. You can not make him stop drinking, you must remember that above all else. He loves booze more than anything else in this world, including himself. You cannot change him, he has to change on his own. He won't do that until he reaches his bottom, as he defines it. It could be losing you, or it could be laying in the gutter, you can't determine that for him. Until he reaches that bottom, he will not seek help.
There are programs for co-dependents of alcoholics Al-Anon is one of the best. Leave him and go seek help for yourself. Good luck.

I would give him an ultimatum to go to detox and give him a chance to get sober. If he says he won't then I would run. You don't want to get into any deeper of a relationship than you already have, and definitely don't marry him. If you marry him the problem will only amplify. You're lucky you have a chance to leave without complications. There are so many other sober fish in the sea. : )

I am funky and energetic....and i hate drinking! Drinking is just about the worst habit a person can have, difficult to quit. Tell him to drop excessive drinking or u will drop him.

DUMP HIM NOW! A drunk is all he will ever be. You will have to put up with his drinking from now on. You dont need a drunk like this, Ask him to get help from his drinking or you go in a differend direction. Drinking like he does is a bad way to live. It will kill him someday if he doesent stop. You dont need him.

If you think he's an alcoholic, then leave. If you don't think he's an alcoholic and want to leave, then leave. Trying to find an excuse is petty. If you want to go, then go.

look alcholics need to realize that they have a problem. if they dont then they wont get the help that they need. so you can either try to help him through this tough time or you can high tail it outta there before it gets violent, believe me it will.
